Berserk is the story of a young swordsman named Guts (Gatts, Gattsu, Gats, Gutz... Miura uses Guts so that's what I'll use) and his journey towards something that will change his life and all those around him forever. The very first episode introduces us to an extremely PISSED and insane Guts, who is on the path for revenge, but as the story progresses we are shown the flashback of Guts's past and what led him to become the Black Swordsman.
The story is filled with the most amazing cast of extremely realistic characters, each with their own flaws, hopes, dreams, and ideals. Guts eventually joins the Band of the Hawk, a legendary army of bandits and mercenaries that will attempt to reach for the heavens with Guts as their right hand. The series is the telling of their ascension towards the one goal that their leader Griffith has seen, to rule absolutely and attain his own kingdom. The band of the hawk also introduces us to Judeau, Pippin, Rickert, Corkus, and most importantly for Guts, Caska.
The characters grow and strive for everything right in front of the viewer, and never have I been so entranced by a story. It's really that good, and unless you've seen it you won't know what I'm talking about!
Most of the series takes place in the Kingdom of Midland, which has been waring with a neighboring kingdom, Tuda, for hundreds of years. Using this as a way to attain greatness, Griffith and the Hawks side with Midland and join their forces as one of its strongest components. the battles are bloody and vicious, and the interaction of characters is really something to see.
I'll leave this as the synopsis as I don't want to give anything away.

[size=14]Plot Summary: Due to a lack of ambassadors for the recently-conquered worlds the rapidly advancing fleet of the Bebaus brothers leave behind, Lafiel is appointed Territorial Ambassador of the planet Lobnas II. Upon arriving to the planet Jinto and Lafiel discover that the planet was used by the United Mankind as a prison planet and now has a million prisoners on the only inhabited island. The prisoners are parted in three blocks. The western where women are housed, the eastern belongs to the men and the central is mixed under the restriction that all prisoners living there are sterilized. The women in the western sector want to emigrate from the planet of fear for the men and when they do the men in the east rebel, overthrowing the guards and capturing Jinto to try to stop the emigration of the women. At the same time an enemy fleet heads toward the system forcing Lafiel to abandon Jinto.

The human race has colonized the stars and formed many nations. For
many years, Jinto led a relatively peaceful life as the son of a
colonial governor on a remote planet called Martin. Then came the Abh.
They were a blue-haired race of genetically modified humans with
beautiful, elf-like appearances, long life spans and advanced
technology. The Abh conquered their planet without firing a single
shot, and thus Jinto became a noble of the Abh Empire.
Now that Jinto is of the Abh nobility, he is required to go to an Ahb
school and learn the customs of the Abh. He meets the beautiful
princess Lafiel and soon learns that the Abh are far more than he had

Everyday, he performs the overlooked but important task of collecting space debris together with his colleagues, Yuri, Fei, and the newcomer Tanabe, among others. The debris collecting section is the lowest section of a company that everyone else looks down on; however, that doesn't stop him from having the lofty dream of owning his very own spaceship someday.
This is his fourth year on the job. He will be 25 years old soon but is still getting nowhere in life, which is why he begins to fret about his future. Yet, for now, Hachimaki will do the same task he does everyday...
